This folder brings together ELIAMEP’s work on EU enlargement and the evolving political landscape in Europe. Our research explores not only the mechanics of the enlargement process but also the narratives, actors, and challenges that shape it, ranging from democratic backsliding to geopolitical rivalries and public opinion. We track and analyse developments that impact on enlargement policy both in Brussels and EU member states. Moreover, building on ELIAMEP’s strong tradition of regional expertise, we also shed light on the reform process, domestic political landscape, socio-economic dynamics and geopolitical pressures in candidate countries. Our aim is to inform EU and national states policy through impactful publications, high-level dialogues, and direct engagement with key stakeholders.
