Alexandra Voudouri, in an interview on the show SYRORA (ERT3) with Kalli Zarali, explains the reasons why the President of the European Commission gave the Enlargement portfolio to Slovenia and the possible “obstacles” in the European course of the candidate countries
She also referred to the mandate and “legacy” of the Hungarian Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varheli. As regards the prospect of substantial progress on enlargement during Ursula von der Leyen’s second mandate, Voudouri pointed out that this would depend on the extent to which the countries concerned take forward reforms, but also recalled the fatigue that has set in regarding the progress of European integration, as well as the factor of the bilateralisation of problems, as in the case of North Macedonia with Bulgaria, which are presented as obstacles to enlargement.
