The Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) and Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences organise a lecture on “The Governance of Strategic Technologies in the Context of Geopolitical Rivalry between the US, China and the EU”, delivered by Professor Thomas Christiansen (LUISS Guido Carli in Rome). The lecture will be held on Tuesday 27 May, at 18:00, at ELIAMEP’s premises.

The governance of strategic technologies is becoming increasingly important as geopolitical rivalry between the United States, China, and the European Union intensifies. Strategic technologies (e.g., artificial intelligence, semiconductors, critical infrastructure, etc.) are no longer construed merely as fields of innovation but also as instruments of power and influence that are vital to national security. In light of these developments, the lecture and the subsequent discussion aim to analyse the role and governance of strategic technologies during a time of significant geopolitical change.

The event will be chaired jointly by Professor Spyros Blavoukos, Head of the ‘Ariane Condellis’ European Programme at ELIAMEP, and Professor Dionyssis G. Dimitrakopoulos (Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences). A Q&A session will then follow.

The event is open to the public, but prior registration is mandatory (via email to ppolitis@eliamep.gr) by 26 May 2025, 12:00 noon.

The lecture and the discussion will be held in English.
