Closed roundtable discussion with Mr Andrius Kubilius, EU Commissioner for Defence and Space

The ELIAMEP Defence Hub and the Europe Direct ELIAMEP Attikis hosted a closed roundtable discussion on Monday, 4 May 2026, featuring Mr Andrius Kubilius, EU Commissioner for Defence and Space. The discussion brought together representatives of leading Greek defence and dual-use companies, the start-up ecosystem and the relevant institutional authorities of the Hellenic Republic.

Moderated by Dr Elena Lazarou, Director General of ELIAMEP, the roundtable focused, inter alia, on current EU initiatives to support the defence ecosystem, key challenges facing the defence sector and expectations from the European Commission vis-à-vis the future. Particular attention was given to the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028-2034, highlighting the importance of a robust financial envelope to support the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base (EDTIB). In addition, industry representatives briefed the Commissioner on the barriers and disincentives they encounter.
