The global value chain is understood as a complex network of international trade and commerce, energy, transport services for goods and services, investment, labour, technology transfers and sustainable channels, involving multiple countries, regions and industries. Greece finds itself sitting astride several major routes, from across the world, all passing through a wider Mediterranean area, which serves as both a buffer but also a point of juncture between the industrialised markets of the North and the Global South.

There are three corridors of immediate interest for Greece and the region at the present time:

  1. The India – Middle East – Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC)
  2. The Southern Maritime Corridor
  3. The Northern Corridor
