The Hellenic Foundation for European & Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) announces its new initiative focused on Greek economic diplomacy. With Papastratos‘ support, this project aims to highlight the key challenges facing Greek economic diplomacy and develop proposals for improving it. As part of this effort, the research team of the European Programme will prepare a policy paper designed to present concrete proposals for the future of Greek economic diplomacy.
The project includes two closed discussions:
- The first discussion involves institutional and public sector representatives, aiming to map the current institutional framework and identify potential inefficiencies in the processes through which Greek economic diplomacy is formulated and implemented,
- The second closed discussion brings together representatives of the private sector. Its objectives are: a) to highlight the challenges faced by Greek firms operating or exporting abroad, and b) to explore ways to mitigate these challenges.
Based on the abovementioned discussions, the policy paper prepared by the European Programme research team will aim to serve as a starting point for a broader discussion in the public sphere regarding Greek economic diplomacy.
Economic diplomacy is an integral part and a vital tool of Greece’s foreign policy. It shapes strategies that enhance economic extroversion and support Greek enterprises or businesses of Greek interests in global markets. In an era where economic interdependence is increasingly leveraged as a strategic tool, the need to safeguard and promote national economic interests is more pressing than ever.
With this initiative, ELIAMEP seeks to contribute to the modernisation of Greek economic diplomacy at a time of multiple international (and European) developments that significantly impact the promotion and protection of Greek economic interests abroad.
