The 2nd Workshop of the project ‘SMILE‘, a sub-grant project of the Pathways2Resilience (P2R) (Horizon) Programme, took place on Monday 17 February 2025 in Skiathos island. More than 20 stakeholders of Skiahtos’s local community took part in the workshop (local authorities, institutions, civil society organizations). The workshop, which was designed and implemented by the Climate Change Hub, aimed at identifying factors that can threaten the island’s resilience in the short- and long-term and, in turn, to find common ground for the creation of Skiathos’s resilience strategy.
Specifically, the workshop opened with a speech by the Mayor, Mr. Theodoros Tzoumas, who informed the audience on the municipality’s participation in the overall project. This was followed by a presentation of the P2R programme by the organisers, namely the Climate Change Hub. In turn a series of interactive exercises was implemented. These exercises employed a holistic approach on resilience and gave the participants the necessary tools to understand and evaluate the crises and chronic pressures faced by the Skiathos. This way, the importance of participation of local communities during the design of such strategies was brought out, along with the benefits of co-design approaches.
