ELIAMEP and the Candid Foundation (Berlin) are organizing a panel discussion on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Impact Hub (28 Karaiskaki Street, 10554 Athens) on the following topic:
Beyond Conflict: Israeli and Palestinian Perspectives on Europe’s Role in a Political Solution
The Israel-Palestine conflict continues to expose and deepen fractures—within Israeli and Palestinian societies, their leaderships, and the very frameworks intended to guide a resolution. As violence escalates and political deadlock endures, the space for meaningful engagement is narrowing. In this panel discussion, two internationally renowned experts will critically explore these internal divides, examine where opportunities for dialogue and political action still exist, and consider how European policymakers might contribute to reviving momentum toward a sustainable political solution.
Panelists:
- Nomi Bar-Yaacov is a leading award winning international lawyer, negotiator, mediator, and arbitrator with many years of experience in international conflict management and peacebuilding. She is a Convenor of back-channel negotiations and has been involved in complex ceasefire and peace negotiations around the world. She held senior roles, including speechwriter for the UN Secretary-General at the United Nations, and leading roles in the OSCE, the International Institute for Strategic Studies, Chatham House, and is currently a Fellow at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. She serves on the boards of several international peace and security organisations. Nomi is a frequent keynote speaker and frequent media commentator on the Middle East and geopolitics for leading network programmes including BBC’s Newsnight, France 24’’s ’The Debate’ DW’s Newshour, and Al Jazeera’s Inside Story. She is a frequent ‘Presenter’s Friend’ on BBC Newschannel, SKYNews, and CBC.
- Sulaiman Khatib is the Co-Founder of Combatants for Peace (CfP). Since their foundation in 2006, CfP has been committed to joint non-violence and to ending the Israeli occupation in the Palestinian territories in order to build a peaceful future for all.
