The REBOOT (Reviving, Boosting, Optimising and Transforming European Film Competitiveness) project consortium held its plenary meeting on 14-16 May 2024 in Cannes. During this two-day event, project members discussed the progress made, exchanged ideas and planned on next steps, while members of the project’s advisory board shared strategic insights on societal impact and creativity in the context of the film industry.

The meeting also featured a workshop which brought REBOOT together with other cluster projects focusing on the European Film Industry: SCENE (Searchable multi-dimensional Data Lakes supporting Cognitive Film Production & Distribution for the Promotion of the EuropeaN Cultural HeritagE) and CRESCINE (Increasing the international competitiveness of the film industry in small European markets). The workshop, titled “Exploring the Creative Frontier: Generative AI in Film and the Ethical Landscape”, discussed the challenges and opportunities that AI brings to the creative industry and artistic expression.

The REBOOT project was also present at the Marché du Film of the Cannes Film Festival. REBOOT researchers Katerina Sarikakis, the coordinator of REBOOT, Evangelia Psychogiopoulou, Antonios Vlassis and Jean-Francois Trubert presented the project, its objectives and key research findings, and discussed the possibilities for enhancing competitiveness and cultural diversity with industry representatives.

The event was hosted at the Chateau La Napoule.
