The Youth Assemblies on Climate Change are experiential activities that are part of the “Climate Resilient Regions Through Systemic Solutions and Innovations” – ARSINOE programme, which is funded by the European Commission (Horizon 2020). The project seeks, among other things, to bring scientific knowledge closer to society, as well as to encourage the involvement of stakeholders and citizens in strengthening resilience to climate change through holistic approaches and promoting innovations. In total, 41 partners from 15 different countries are participating in the project, which is coordinated by the University of Thessaly.
The fourth Youth Assembly on Climate Change with the participation of High School Students was organized by ELIAMEP and took place on May 8, 2025. A total of 36 students from (junior) high schools from all around Attica took part in it. The participants studied the tailor-made educational material and measured their carbon footprint. Subsequently, then mapped the environmental problems that concern them at the national, regional, and the local level, even at the school, neighborhood, and household-individual levels. In turn, they examined the climate policies in place and, through structured dialogue, they came up with realistic and applicable policy measures to address the problems they had previously identified. The measures they proposed were divided in three axes: climate change mitigation, adaptation to its impacts, as well as horizontal issues of awareness-education and governance-participation. The proposals were laid down in the Regional Green Deal for Attica, which was adopted as the outcome document of the Assembly.
