Manos Matsaganis, Head of the Greek and European Economy Programme at ELIAMEP and Professor of Public Finance at the Polytechnic University of Milan, participated as a speaker at the international seminar “Voting for Far-Right and Right-Wing Populist Parties: Spatial Perspectives”, held at Villa Vigoni on Lake Como (19–21 June 2025).

In his presentation titled “Populism and Austerity”, Professor Matsaganis explored the links between socioeconomic inequality, austerity policies, and the rise of populism in Europe, with a particular focus on Southern European countries and Greece. The seminar, organized by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, brought together policymakers, academics, and experts from across Europe to discuss income disparities and the growing support for anti-system parties, aiming to foster dialogue and outline a progressive social democratic agenda.
