ELIAMEP and the Institute of Global Affairs of The American College of Greece (ACG) organised the 5th Summer Academy titled “Leadership Beyond Boundaries: Empowering the Next Generation of Mediterranean Leaders”, which took place at the premises of the International Olympic Academy from Monday, July 14 2025, to Saturday, July 19 2025. The 5th ELIAMEP-ACG Summer Academy was implemented within the framework of the co-funded by the EU EPACE-EU project (Enhancing Public Awareness and Civic Engagement in the EU), with the kind support of the Hanns Seidel Stiftung and the PRIO Cyprus Centre.

In total, the 5th ELIAMEP-ACG Summer Academy brought together 29 participants (emerging leaders from various fields) and 21 distinguished speakers from 19 countries across the Mediterranean, Europe, and Asia, to discuss critical issues concerning the Mediterranean. The Summer Academy included lectures, discussions as well as trainings in negotiations and public speaking & media.

In summary, the lectures and the discussions focused on the following thematic areas:

  1. Regional security and shifting power dynamics
  2. Europe’s strategic interests
  3. From climate crisis to conflict: destabilising dynamics
  4. Cross-border cooperation, and
  5. Geopolitical and economic shifts

The 5th ELIAMEP-ACG Summer Academy included an interactive workshop that highlighted the importance of leadership in peace negotiations. Additionally, the negotiations training equipped the participants with the necessary tools and skills to successfully carry out the negotiation simulation. Finally, the training in public speaking & media helped participants understand the ways in which effective communication can be achieved.

As part of offering a holistic educational experience, participants and speakers were given a guided tour of the archaeological site and the museum of Ancient Olympia and attended a dance performance featuring Greek music. In this way, they were introduced not only to Greek culture but also to the Olympic ideals, which are essential elements in shaping the next generation of leaders in the Mediterranean.
