The Brussels Forum project, a product of ELIAMEP’s cooperation with diANEOsis, seeks to facilitate the communication and exchange of views with high-ranking Greek officials who work in the EU institutions and are involved in the European Union’s public policy production system. The aim is that an articulated exchange of views exists, in the light of Greek priorities, on issues relating to the EU agenda and the course of European integration.
The Brussels Forum addressing “The European Union in the World” on Monday 7 November 2022 in Brussels was the product of a partnership between diaNEOSis and ELIAMEP.
At the closed working meeting, officials from the European Commission and other EU institutions discussed, under the Chatham House rule, issues crucial for the future of Europe and Greece.
The war in Ukraine plus the energy and economic crises are bringing new realities into being and presenting the EU with crucial choices as they redefine the bloc’s place in world affairs. The Brussels Forum seeks to elaborate and synthesise views and perspectives, and to contribute to the national and pan-European conversation both on the Future and the European Union’s role in both its immediate neighbourhood and the international system.
The event, which took place under the Chatham House Rule, was attended by more than 40 senior officials from the European Commission, the Permanent Representation of Greece to the EU and international organisations such as NATO, along with young specialists who work at the European institutions.
The Forum was divided into two thematic sections: “EU Foreign Policy, Security and Defence” and “A Safe and Competitive Europe in a Changing World”. In each of the two sections, short introductory statements describing the context were followed by open discussions.
The following morning, the working meeting’s conclusions were presented to Greece’s MEPs and associates of theirs in a room at the European Parliament.
A written report to follow, published jointly by ELIAMEP and diaNEOSis, will present the main conclusions of the Brussels Forum discussions.
