The Greek and European Economy Programme of the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) invites proposals for policy briefs on key issues facing the European economy, and their implications for Greece.

PhD students, post-doc researchers, analysts, and policy professionals with a background in economics and/or political science, international relations are invited to submit a proposal. Clarity of style and exposition will be particularly valued. Young female researchers are especially encouraged to apply.

Potential topics may range from the emerging field of geoeconomics (e.g. EU-US / EU-China trade relations, the search for strategic autonomy, EU and Africa / Latin America) to traditional concerns (e.g. the EU budget, NextGenerationEU and its legacy, economic governance in the Eurozone), including more narrow, sectoral ones (e.g. EU industrial / housing / energy/ health / transport policy).

The proposals selected will be eventually published as European Economy Policy Briefs, a series launched in 2023, with the generous support of the A.G. Leventis Foundation.

The European Economy Policy Briefs are aimed at a general non-academic readership. Their purpose is to raise public awareness and deepen the understanding of critical economic issues, emphasizing both the risks and opportunities for Greece, and seeking to contribute to the public debate on possible solutions in Greece and Europe. Four such policy briefs (approx. 5,000-word long) are published each academic year, in both English and Greek, in three-month intervals (December / March / June / September).

To effectively disseminate the European Economy Policy Briefs, each publication is followed by:

  • a closed in-person seminar with the author(s), experts from government, politics, business, labour unions, civil society, academia, think tanks, international bodies, and the media (on Chatham House rules),
  • a podcast in the form of an interview with the author(s), aimed at a Greek-speaking audience, and
  • an online seminar (webinar), with the author(s) and other panellists from Greece, Europe, and beyond, aimed at an international audience.

ELIAMEP offers authors of European Economy Policy Briefs an honorarium of €1,000 (per policy brief). Authors are expected to deliver at the end of the month before publication, and actively participate in the three follow-up events (seminar, podcast, webinar).

Prospective authors are invited to apply by submitting one or more proposal(s), in English, consisting of:

  • a 500-word extended abstract on a topic of their choice
  • a 100-word biographical note
  • full name, institutional affiliation, and contact details
  • indicating their availability for the December 2025 issue (deadline: 30 November)
