What does America mean to me?

Thanos Veremis, on the occasion of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, writes about the superheroes created by American popular illustrated magazines and comics. These figures reinforce Americans’ belief that their country produces individuals with extraordinary powers, as well as the moral responsibility and discipline needed not to abuse those powers against their ordinary fellow citizens.
