Dr Triantafyllos Karatrantos explains that European citizens’ heightened sense of insecurity is clearly reflected both in their political priorities and in their attitudes towards electoral processes, with consistent demands for a “Europe that Protects”. As the latest Eurobarometer of the European Parliament reveals, a large majority of citizens declare themselves extremely concerned about a broad and almost evenly-weighted range of threats extending from armed conflicts and terrorism to cyberattacks, migration and natural disasters exacerbated by climate change.
