ELIAMEP Senior Research Fellow, Dr. Ronald Meinardus, emphasizes that ‘overcoming the financial crisis is the single most important factor in improving German-Greek relations and enhancing Germany’s image in Greece,’ in his Policy Brief titled Evolving Perceptions: The Gradual Transformation of Germany’s Image in Greece. The research paper, based on a nationwide opinion poll, was presented to the public on September 7, 2024, during the opening day of the International Fair of Thessaloniki, where the Federal Republic of Germany served as the official host country.
Among the speakers at the launch event, held at the German Pavilion, were Alexis Routzounis, Head of Research at Kapa Research; Prof. Agis Papadopoulos, Member of the Board of Directors of the German-Greek Chamber of Industry and Commerce; and Sören Bartol, Member of the Bundestag and Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development, and Building, who also serves as the German Chair of the German-Greek Assembly. The event, which drew considerable attendance, was moderated by Xenia Kounalaki, Editor for International News at Greece’s leading daily Kathimerini and a noted expert on Greek-German relations.
