On December 4, Dr. Elena Lazarou, Director General of ELIAMEP, participated as a speaker in the conference “Athens: Policy Dialogues”, co-organized by the Council for International Relations – Greece (CfIR-GR), the Delphi Economic Forum, and the Greek newspaper TO VIMA.
The conference examined shifting dynamics in the Eastern Mediterranean, focusing on prospects for stability, reconstruction, and a new strategic balance in the region. It concluded with a keynote by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who highlighted Greece’s role and outlook in a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape.
Dr. Lazarou joined the panel “Geopolitical Rivalry in the Eastern Mediterranean: The Role of the EU, Russia, China, and the US”, alongside prominent politicians and analysts: Dimitris Avramopoulos, former EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs & Citizenship; Constantine Arvanitopoulos, Director General, Konstantinos Karamanlis Foundation & former Minister of Education; Ioannis Valinakis, former Deputy Foreign Minister; MEP Yannis Maniatis; and journalist Sean Mathews, Middle East Eye. The discussion was moderated by Marilia Papathanasiou, journalist at the newspaper TO VIMA. In her remarks, Dr. Lazarou highlighted the key challenges and policy choices shaping the role of the EU and the impact of global powers on stability and security in the Eastern Mediterranean.
