On 28–30 May, Dr. Elena Lazarou, Director General of ELIAMEP, participated in a two-day workshop in Florence dedicated to exploring alternative futures for European security. The event brought together a select group of U.S. and European experts for forward-looking discussions on transatlantic relations, nuclear deterrence, Ukraine, and broader security challenges, complemented by scenario-building exercises examining a shifting transatlantic environment.

Organized through the collaboration between the Council on Foreign Relations and the European University Institute’s Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, the workshop also addressed risks such as migration pressures, instability in the Middle East, and China’s growing role in Europe.

ELIAMEP’s participation contributed to broadening the Southern European perspective in these important discussions on the future of European security. The event was held under the Chatham House rule.
