On 5 December 2025, ELIAMEP, in collaboration with the Bertelsmann Foundation and the Bertelsmann Stiftung, hosted a full day of discussions on Europe’s evolving role as a space power.
The day began with the RANGE Decomposition Workshop, bringing together experts from government, research institutions, academia, industry, defence, and the innovation ecosystem. Participants explored key drivers shaping Europe’s strategic posture in space, worked through three alternative long-term scenarios, and identified signals relevant to Europe’s preparedness, resilience, and technological competitiveness. In the evening, a screening of the documentary Astropolitics at the Byzantine & Christian Museum. Following the film, a discussion took place examining the geopolitical dynamics of space as well as the implications for European security and autonomy. The reception that followed the event provided an opportunity for further exchange among participants, speakers, and partners.
