Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis met in Athens, on June 20, with a delegation from the US Congress, headed by US Representative Mark Green (R-TN), chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, and US Ambassador to Greece George Tsunis. The Minister highlighted the very close relations between the United States and Greece and stated that Greece’s foreign policy remains based on international law. Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias also met the delegation the following day at the Ministry of National Defense, where they talked, among others, about the strengthening of strategic defence relations between the two countries and its significance for stability in the wider region.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met on June 25 with US Senator Cory Booker (D – NJ) and they discussed the excellent state of Greek-American relations, defence cooperation as well as international and regional issues. On the same day, Booker met with FM Gerapetritis, where they talked about political, economic, defence and energy cooperation between Greece and the US. Gerapetritis and Booker also exchanged views on the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and in the Middle East and on major international crises.

On June 27, Greece’s parliamentary armament committee approved four military procurement programs for the Air Force and Navy. The programs include the acquisition of F-35 fighter jets, participation in the US Navy’s Constellation-class frigate program, procurement of four Austrian-made Schiebel Camcopter S-100 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) for FDI frigates, and engine overhauls on the LASOS and KAVALOUDIS missile boats. These procurement plans await final approval from the Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defense (KYSEA) before contracts are signed by the General Directorate for Defense Investments and Armaments.
