In this post, we focus on how important trade with countries outside the region is for each Med country, given the size of their economy. Slovenia is the Med country that records the highest volume of trade in goods with countries outside the region relative to its GDP. Compared to other countries in the Med region, trade with non-Med countries is less important for countries at the lower end of the chart, given the size of their economies.
Note: Analysis produced by Alma Economics based on the most recent data from the UN Comtrade and World Bank databases. Values are shown for 2022, as a percentage of GDP and include trade only for goods. Due to a lack of available data, the latest available figures were used for Libya (2019). Syria and Algeria were excluded from this analysis due to the unavailability of recent UN Comtrade data.
