Since April 28, when almost all of Spain, as well as parts of Portugal and France, was plunged into darkness, the cause of the blackout is still being investigated. Was it the Iberian countries’ excessive dependence on Renewable Energy Sources (RES), the limited investments they have made in transmission and distribution networks, a cyberattack, a rare weather phenomenon, or something else? The conclusions so far do not only concern the countries where the long-lasting power outage occurred, but the entire European Union, as similar situations exist elsewhere.
Journalist Polydeukis Papadopoulos examines the state of the investigation regarding this serious incident, with the participation of Michalis Mathioulakis.
