The European Commission has awarded funding to SEE-ERA (Transforming R&I organisations and advancing the ERA through gender equality and inclusiveness in SEE), a new Horizon Europe project coordinated by ViLabs. Funded under the HORIZON-WIDERA-2024-ERA-01 call, SEE-ERA will run from February 1, 2025, to January 31, 2028, bringing together 10 partners from six European countries (Albania, Croatia, Denmark, Greece, Romania, and the UK). The project’s kick-off meeting  took place on February 10–11, 2025.

Transforming Research Organisations for Inclusive Gender Equality

SEE-ERA aims to drive structural change in research organisations by fostering knowledge exchange and the sustainable transformation of Gender Equality Plans (GEPs) within five Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) and two Research Funding Organisations (RFOs) in Greece, Albania, Croatia, and Romania. By engaging internal and external stakeholders from the partners’ ecosystem, the project seeks to enhance gender capacities and advance the implementation of inclusive and intersectional GEPs in South East Europe regions while integrating gender equality in research and innovation processes.

A Holistic Approach to Sustainable Institutional Change

To achieve its goals, SEE-ERA will:

Develop and deliver tailored mentoring and training programmes to strengthen intersectional and inclusive gender equality knowledge and skills in South East Europe.

Create a Community of Practice by promoting mutual learning between stakeholders from South East and Northern Europe.

Understanding existing processes to support research commercialization processes and

support gender inclusive innovation in Higher Education.

Implement a robust GEPs monitoring and evaluation framework to ensure long-term institutional change.

SEE-ERA project contributes forging new research careers, better integration of the gender dimension in research and innovation (R&I), knowledge valorisation and building stronger R&I communities and ecosystems in South East Europe.
