Ioannis Alexandris, Research Fellow at the South-East Europe Programme of ELIAMEP, appeared as a guest alongside Lura Pollozhani, Researcher at the University of Graz, on the show “Programi 200”, hosted by journalist Nazim Rashidi on Alsat TV in North Macedonia. Alexandris spoke about U.S. President Donald Trump, his policies, and the rise of the far right in Europe, in light of the report he co-authored titled “The rise of radical right and Eurosceptic political forces and the impact on the EU’s enlargement policy” prepared in the framework of the initiative think nea – New Narratives of EU Integration.
More specifically, he emphasized the transactional nature of President Trump’s approach to international relations, the global economy and its security. He also discussed the rise and normalization of far-right parties in EU member states such as Germany and France providing an in-depth analysis of the factors contributing to this rise. He examined the rhetoric of these parties on key issues such as migration and the economy, as well as their stance on the issue of EU enlargement.
