The 17th ELIAMEP European Seminar was held on Hydra on 28 September – 1 October 2023 and proved a resounding success. This year’s seminar was entitled “Europe in a Rapidly Changing World: Thinking out of the box” and staged with the kind support of Open Society Foundations. The topics discussed included the war in Ukraine and what it teaches us, transatlantic relations and the role of China, enlargement and the new challenges facing the EU at a regional level, industrial policy and protectionism, tackling climate change, the high stakes of the European elections and the under-shaping of European strategy. The seminar was attended by distinguished personalities from the political and academic world as well as from Europe’s leading tank thinks. These included: Herman Van Rompuy, former President of the European Council; Jeromin Zettelmeyer, Director of Bruegel, the European institute; the economist Jean Pisany-Ferry; the former Greek Minister for Finance, George Papaconstantinou; Daniela Schwarzer, who sits on the Bertelsmann Foundation Board; and Radmila Šekerinska, former Minister of Defence of North Macedonia.
