Dr. Athina Markantoni is a seasoned professional in research, governance, and international development, with expertise in European policies, institutional reform, and EU funding. With over 24 years of experience, she has led technical assistance programmes for the European Commission, the World Bank, and other international organisations, focusing on public administration and policy reform, entrepreneurship, social inclusion, innovation, digital transformation and smart specialisation and skills development. As the Managing Director of EUROSCOPE since 2005, she oversees strategic planning and training programmes for government agencies, NGOs, SMEs, and academic institutions. Since 2002, she has served as a research and evaluation expert for the European Commission, assessing  projects under Horizon Europe, Horizon 2020, FP7, FP6, FP5, and ERASMUS+, and has acted as Vice-Chair in numerous European evaluation processes. In parallel, she has contributed as a visiting lecturer at the University of Athens and has developed training programmes on European institutions, policies and governance. A strong advocate of social engagement, she has led STEM education and science communication initiatives and is a certified Partnership Broker and OSCE/ODIHR election observer. Fluent in Greek, English, and with working knowledge in French Italian, and Spanish, she excels in leadership, multiple international stakeholder management, and strategic planning. In her free time, she enjoys sports, cultural exploration, literature, and the arts.
