Andreas C. Hatzidiakos

Research Fellow, Wider Europe Programme

Andréas C. Hatzidiakos holds a PhD in Political Science and specialises in international and strategic relations, with a particular focus on the Middle East, North Africa, the Gulf region, and the Sahel. Over a decade spent as a political and military advisor at the French Ministry of Armed Forces – including as a Seconded National Expert at the European External Action Service – shaped his expertise at the intersection of policy, strategy, and operational practice. 

His research spans three core areas: counter-terrorism and radicalisation processes; the resurgence of armed conflicts and the rise of authoritarian regimes; and defence policy and armament. More broadly, his areas of expertise include armament and defense capabilities, conflict prevention and mediation, security sector reform, radicalisation processes and prevention of violent extremism, and the financing of terrorism. 

In addition to his position as Research Fellow at ELIAMEP, Andréas is co-director of OPEWI – Europe’s War Institute

Since 2008, he has been a Visiting Lecturer at Sciences Po Paris, Sciences Po Rennes, Sciences Po Strasbourg, Sciences Po Toulouse, Université Catholique de Lille, and Rey Juan Carlos University. He is a native speaker of French, Greek, and Italian, professional in English, and has working knowledge of German, Spanish, and beginner level of Arabic.
