The report Beyond the Build: A New Canadian Strategy for Latin America and the Caribbean was recently published by the Canadian Council for the Americas (CCA) and calls for a bold and immediate strengthening of Canada’s economic ties in the region.

Dr. Elena Lazarou, Director General of ELIAMEP, participated as a member of the expert group that provided advisory input in the report‑drafting process.

CCA’s proposal links Canada’ s national infrastructure priorities with the most pressing challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean, paving the way for strong partnerships and sustainable growth. It proposes a new framework for the Canadian government’s approach to Latin America and the Caribbean and presents a set of strategic priorities, including activating existing Free Trade Agreements, boosting infrastructure investments, developing critical resources and minerals, promoting skills mobility partnerships, and strengthening supply chain resilience and cybersecurity.

According to the report’s authors, this is a historic opportunity for Canada to play a leading role in the region’s economic and trade development.
