In the context of ELIAMEP’s initiative think nea – New Narratives of EU Integration, which is supported by Open Society Foundations – Western Balkans, Ioannis Armakolas, Head, South-East Europe Programme, ELIAMEP & Director, think nea – New Narratives of EU Integration, had a series of high-level meetings in Skopje, North Macedonia.
Dr. Armakolas met with the President of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, and introduced her to the research work carried out under think nea – New Narratives of EU Integration, which focuses on promoting evidence-based dialogue and policy engagement around the European Union’s enlargement process.
Their discussion centered on identifying possible solutions to overcome the current obstacles in North Macedonia’s EU integration path and on addressing the broader risk of any Western Balkan country being left behind in the enlargement process. Both underlined that the European Union itself stands to gain from the full integration of all countries in the region, strengthening stability, democracy, and cohesion in Europe as a whole.
The meeting also touched upon North Macedonia’s ongoing accession to the European Public Law Organization (EPLO), a step expected to advance the rule of law and enhance the effectiveness and transparency of institutional governance.
