On 29–30 September, Dr. Elena Lazarou participated in the Warsaw Security Forum (WSF), one of Europe’s premier conferences on transatlantic security, gathering over 2500 global leaders since 2014. WSF is organized by the Casimir Pulaski Foundation in partnership with NATO and Poland’s National Security Bureau. This year’s Forum, held under the theme #DividedWeFall, welcomed France as the Partner Nation of the Forum. Key debates addressed support for Ukraine, transatlantic relations, Europe’s defence and energy security, the state of the international order, and many other themes.

Dr. Lazarou participated as a speaker on the roundtable “The Next Chapter in EU Security Partnerships: NATO, Bilateral and Beyond”, along with other distinguished experts. The roundtable was opened by Defence and Space Commissioner, Andrius Kubilius, and moderated by Marcin Bużański, Senior Advisor at Casimir Pulaski Foundation. Other speakers included Marcos Perestrello (President, NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Portugal); Herald Ruijters (Deputy Director-General, Head of Task Force for SAFE instrument, DG for Defence Industry and Space, European Commission); Oleg Shymanskyi (Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine); Pierre Heilbronn (Special Envoy for Ukraine’s Relief and Reconstruction, Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, France) and Delphine Pronk (Chair of the Political and Security Committee, European External Action Service). Dr. Lazarou discussed the nature of the EU’s existing security and defense partnerships, highlighted the relevance of partners for EU operational and industrial capacity and stressed the importance of conditionalities as outlined in EU regulations such as SAFE.
