NATO Headquarters in Brussels hosted the 1st NATO Information Day on the Greek Defence Ecosystem on Wednesday, 4 March. The event, organised by the Permanent Representation of Greece to NATO, under the auspices of Ambassador Vasiliki Gounari, Permanent Representative of Greece to NATO, aimed to deepen cooperation between Greek institutions and the Alliance’s structures.
The event brought together 110 participants from the Greek defence ecosystem, together with representatives from 11 NATO bodies, including: Allied Command Transformation (ACT), Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA), NATO Innovation Fund (NIF), NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA), NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), Science and Technology Organization (STO), Science for Peace and Security Programme (SPS), Advanced Interoperability and Standardization Fund (AIS), and NATO Industrial Advisory Group (NIAG).
Opening the event, Ambassador Vasiliki Gounari, underscored the critical role of emerging technologies in today’s evolving geopolitical landscape and reaffirmed Greece’s commitment to strengthening the presence and contribution of the Greek defence ecosystem within NATO, in close cooperation with national stakeholders.The keynote addresses were delivered by Dr. Nikos Loutas, NATO’s Director for Innovation, and Mr. James Appathurai, Assistant Secretary General for Innovation, Hybrid and Cyber.
The thematic sessions were moderated by Dr. Elena Lazarou, Director General of ELIAMEP, and journalist Fanis Papathanasiou. Dr. Lazarou led the discussions on Research & Science as well as Interoperability & Standardisation, highlighting the importance of research-driven innovation and aligned standards for NATO’s future capabilities.
