Dr. Elena Lazarou, Director General of ELIAMEP, participated in the 24th NAVIGATOR Forum 2025, in the panel “Sea Power & Global Politics: Who Rules the Shipping Routes?”. The panel also featured H.E. Matthew Lodge, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Greece; Prof. Athanasios Platias, University of Piraeus; and Dr. Sotiris Sermpos, Associate Professor at the Democritus University of Thrace and Advisor to the Prime Minister. The discussion was moderated by Yanni Moutsios, journalist and news anchor at MEGA TV, and focused on the geopolitical dynamics of maritime power and their implications for global trade and security.
More specifically, Dr. Lazarou noted that geopolitical and geoeconomic risk analysis has become essential as global unpredictability increases and crises broaden in scope. She highlighted key trends shaping the future of the shipping industry, including developments in global supply chains, freedom of navigation, new technologies, climate change, connectivity, energy security, and current conflict dynamics. She also addressed the lasting impact of COVID-19 and Russia’s war on Ukraine.
