On December 3, Dr. Elena Lazarou, Director General of ELIAMEP, participated as a speaker in the conference “Synchronising Compasses: EU and Member States’ Approaches to Collective Security and Defence,” organised by IRSEM Europe and the Institut des hautes études de défense nationale (IHEDN) in Brussels. The session examined how evolving geopolitical realities and national strategic reviews intersect with the EU Strategic Compass, with Dr. Lazarou underscoring the importance of reinforced European coherence, forward-looking strategic planning, and complementarity with NATO.
The panel brought together Henrik Bliddal, Deputy Secretary General of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly; Julien Daemers, Political Assistant to the Deputy Secretary General for Defence at the EEAS; and Mathilde Félix-Paganon, France’s Permanent Representative to the PSC, under the moderation of Dr. Nad’a Kovalčíková, Senior Analyst and Programme Director at the EUISS.
