The “Nisyros Dialogues 2026” took place from 3 to 5 July in the emblematic setting of the Stefanos volcanic crater, against the backdrop of the NATO Summit and a rapidly evolving geopolitical environment. Under the theme “The Eastern Mediterranean in a State of Strategic Rivalry: War, Realignment and the Emergence of a New Security and Energy Architecture,” the fourth edition of the forum focused on geopolitical shifts, security dynamics, and energy developments in the Eastern Mediterranean. Held under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Constantine A. Tassoulas, and the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the event brought together distinguished figures from politics, diplomacy, academia, and international organizations.
Within this framework, Dr Elena Lazarou participated in a thematic dialogue dedicated to recent developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East. Alongside Ambassador ad honorem Dimitris Paraskevopoulos, they mapped the post-war landscape in the Middle East following the conflict with Iran, highlighting the need for proactive diplomatic initiatives by Greece. The discussion was moderated by journalist Alexia Tasouli. Director General’s intervention highlighted the challenges and opportunities shaping European defense and regional security in the current geopolitical landscape. She underscored the need for a coherent European Security Strategy—one that addresses the challenge of competitiveness while safeguarding the interests of all 27 EU Member States.
The keynote speaker of the Dialogues was former Prime Minister and former Vice President of the Government, Panagiotis Pikrammenos, who also serves as a member of ELIAMEP’s Board of Directors.
