Dr. George Dikaios, ELIAMEP Senior Research Fellow, moderated a panel at the 9th Mediterranean Forum of Circle the Med on Tuesday 19 May, during which opportunities and challenges for implementing strategies in the context of promoting the blue economy were discussed and a number of actions were presented. The European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, welcomed the discussion with an opening statement. The panel included: Ambassador Olivier Poivre d’Arvor, Special Envoy of the French President for the Oceans and the Poles; Dr Heba Sharawy, Undersecretary of Environment of Egypt; Dr Dionysia-Theodora Avgerinopoulou, Member of the Hellenic Parliament and Special Envoy of the Greek Prime Minister for the Oceans; Isabelle Ryckbost, Director General of the European Sea Ports Organization; Geneviève Pons, President and Director General of Europe Jaques Delors; and Maria Damanaki, former European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and Vice-President of the Board of Directors of ELIAMEP.
