At the initiative of the Identity & Conflict Lab at the University of Yale, a two-day migration conference entitled “Conference on Immigration in Frontline States: Policy Challenges & New Research” was organized in Chania (Greece) in June 18-19, 2024.
At the beginning of the conference, the Director of the Identity and Conflict Lab Prof Nicholas Sambanis, started with a welcome and opening notes. During the event, researchers from European and American universities presented the results of their studies (See: Migration Conference Agenda).
On the final discussion, the Director General of ELIAMEP, Prof Maria Gavouneli, talked about the basic principles of the recently voted European pact on Migration. The challenges, policy priorities and impact of migration policies in the past ten years for Greece, was highlighted by Marina Nikolova, Research Associate – ELIAMEP, presenting also findings from the project “MIRREM Measuring Irregular Migration” (2022-2025), financed by HORIZON Europe.
