On the 15th of October 2025, the Head of the European Programme “Ariane Condellis” of ELIAMEP, Professor Spyros Blavoukos, participated in the conference titled “Facing Challenges, Setting Priorities: The Upcoming Trio Presidency of Ireland, Lithuania and Greece”, organised by the Centre of Planning and Economic Research and the Embassy of Lithuania in Greece.

During his speech, he emphasised Greece’s priority that EU defence initiatives should have broader geographical coverage and not be limited to the eastern flank of the EU. He also highlighted the priorities related to the Mediterranean and migration, in the first case contributing to the clarification of European policy in this region and in the second case ensuring the implementation of the Pact. At the same time, he referred to three factors which will inevitably influence the course of developments and future discussions, namely the French presidential elections, the Greek national elections in 2027, and the intense negotiations expected to take place on the next Multiannual Financial Framework, which will culminate during the six months of the Greek Presidency.
