Within the framework of ERC-funded project HOMEACROSS, the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) invites applications for one full-time doctoral researcher vacancy. The doctoral student will join an interdisciplinary team under the supervision of Dr. Kalliopi Amygdalou, head of the HOMEACROSS project.

The five-year-long research project entitled ‘Space, Memory and the Legacy of the 1923 Population Exchange between Greece and Turkey’ is funded by the European Research Council (ERC StG, Horizon 2020) and is commencing on 1 February 2021.

CONTRACT

Fixed term, starting 1 February 2021. The position is offered for two (2) years with the possibility of extension up to two (2) additional years.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The PhD student will be based at ELIAMEP. Main responsibilities include:

  • Architectural surveying and ethnographic work in Attica province, under the supervision of Dr. Kalliopi Amygdalou.
  • Archival and library research in Greece and abroad.
  • Literature review, writing and analysis.
  • Participation in the organization of the dissemination activities of the project, and especially the museum exhibition.
  • Participation in team meetings, publications and conferences.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Enrolled in a PhD in Architecture, Cultural Studies or related field. The duration of the contract is bound to the duration of the PhD enrollment, as the latter is a prerequisite for this position.
  2. Post-graduate studies or previous experience in curation or exhibition design is highly desirable.
  3. Strong organisational, research and writing skills.
  4. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Greek.
  5. Previous professional or research experience with refugees and displacement is highly desirable.
  6. Working knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is desirable.
