Dr Mihalis Kritikos is a legal and policy analyst on technology ethics and research integrity with a special focus on AI ethics and the responsible development/deployment of digital technologies based at the Directorate General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission. He is the author of more than 40 publications in the field of risk regulation and responsible innovation including the monograph GMO Regulation in the EU – The False Promise of Proceduralism, Palgrave-Macmillan (2017) and has managed 20 flagship projects in the field of new and emerging technologies. His current research work focuses on the risk assessment and regulatory governance of AI technologies and the implementation of ethical norms in a disruptive technological frame. Mihalis is a legal and ethical expert in the fields of AI, blockchain and gene editing, the responsible governance of science and innovation and the regulatory control of new and emerging risks.
He is also an affiliated scholar to the European Centre of Excellence on the Regulation of Robotics & AI and an Academic Faculty Member of the AIMove programme of MINES ParisTech. He has worked as a Research Programme Manager for the Technology Ethics Service at the European Commission, as a Senior Associate at White and Case (Brussels office), as a Lecturer at several UK Universities and as a Lecturer/Project Leader at the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) focusing on the implementation of EU post-legislative procedures in the domain of technological risk. He also taught EU Law and Institutions for several years at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) where he obtained his PhD on Technology Law.
