Ino Afentouli told Euractiv that an “irreversible” EU-Turkey defence relationship could become a reality, but conditions should be attached. “There should be no blank cheque,” she said, adding that the crackdown on the Turkish political opposition and the country’s stance towards Greece and Cyprus should be put on the table. Afentouli also urged Athens and Nicosia to seek alliances with countries such as France to bolster their regional security interests.
