Panayiotis Ioakimidis writes about the complex and harsh realities that are emerging in the Middle East, where geopolitical conflicts—such as the war between Iran and Israel—coexist with the persecution of minorities, particularly Christians, in countries like Syria and Lebanon. Acknowledging that the European Union does not always have the capacity for direct and dynamic intervention, he argues that, as a soft power, the bloc nonetheless has a moral and political obligation to help protect minorities and shore up stability in the region through institutional interventions, conditional frameworks, and cooperation that promotes the rule of law and respect for human rights.
