In his podcast for ERT, Loukas Tsoukalis analyzes the European Union at a time of deep uncertainty, when pressures to boost Europe’s geopolitical influence and to shift towards increased military spending are rising — for security reasons, but also to make the bloc more globally competitive. In conversation with Polydefkis Papadopoulos, Professor Tsoukalis points out that Europe is experiencing a sense of discomfort and fear: on the one hand, there is the perception — justified or not — of a real Russian threat; on the other, there is the expectation that the US President will force the Europeans to shoulder a greater share of the defence burden.
