In Europe, the temptation to cut social spending to finance defense

Manos Matsaggannis explains in the French newspaper Le Monde why strengthening Europe’s security and defense is necessary, but this must not come at the expense of social protection—for two reasons: firstly, because pro-Putin populists expect this in order to demagogue against the strengthening of Europe’s security and defense; and secondly, because in the medium term, there is no real dilemma between the two.
