Thanos Veremis gave an interview to SKAI TV and journalist Stavros Ioannidis discussing Greece’s response to Turkey. He expressed his agreement with Athens’ current line of action, arguing that “from the moment the Turkish Navtex was issued, Athens turned to its allies, especially within the EU, but also Egypt, Israel and other powers in the region. This helped Athens and made Erdogan feel isolated. We could say that this frustrates him a bit, but his main goal is to convince his voters that he is the best, the strongest, the man in charge.”

Veremis also spoke about the upcoming US election and former Vice President Joe Biden. He described how Biden used to belong to Ted Kennedy’s senate team, a group that had strong pro-Greek sentiments and succeeded in blocking the sale of US arms to Turkey at the time, in reaction to the occupation of Cyprus. Veremis underlines the rarity and importance of such an action.
