In a recent piece featured in the German newspaper Die Zeit, Dr Emmanuel Comte, a senior research fellow at ELIAMEP, shed light on a prospective path to ameliorate the EU’s currently inefficient asylum system. Dr Comte recommends that a subset of countries within the region should collaborate to establish a unified asylum system, harmonising refugee regulations and services. This innovative approach would bypass the contentious issues of quotas and mandated allocations, empowering migrants to relocate to areas offering them the most promising prospects.
