“The European elections 2019 were set up around the Europeanist and Nationalist dipole”, says ELIAMEP researcher, Dr. Filippa Chatzistavrou, in an article at Huffington Post, just before the European elections.
As she underlined: “The fragmentation of the European Parliament will weaken the legislative role of the Commission and of the European Parliament, while further enhancing the intergovernmental path.”
Dr Chatzistavrou also added: “And this will happen at the most critical moment, when Europe needs a specific political planning, a pan-European industrial project, a European climate policy that incorporates trade and social policy (this is what the case of yellow vests in France has taught us), with the use of ambitious European tax instruments and a substantial strengthening of the regional policy.”
