“The key accelerator of developments in the EU is the war in Ukraine, and that alone” – Ioannis Armakolas

Ioannis Armakolas explains the role and function of the European Political Community (EPC) as it convened for its third meeting in Granada, Spain.

“The European Political Community is seeking to become the main accelerator of developments in the continent of Europe, but cannot since that role is currently taken by the war in Ukraine. Where the war goes from here will also be the key determining factor in how the issues surrounding European security policy evolve. The EPC can play a supporting role, but it will depend on the kind of policies the EU develops, and whether these prove successful in giving Ukraine the support it needs and, ultimately, in countering Russian aggression”, he said.
