President Biden’s inability to meet the expectations of his transatlantic partners will make the US withdrawal from the global system appear even more systemic rather than merely temporary. Europe in this case will be forced, albeit reluctantly, to pursuit its strategic autonomy in the face of a unilaterally nationalist American leadership. Even the very continuation of NATO should not be taken for granted,” writes George Pagoulatos, Director General of ELIAMEP, in his article for newspaper Kathimerini.
