Strengthening national defense is a major priority, says George N. Tzogopoulos, ELIAMEP researcher, in an article in the newspaper TA NEA. It is inconceivable that Greece would engage in negotiations with Turkey out of fear or be forced to negotiate in fear following a likely hot incident, Dr. Tzogopoulos points out and explains that, in this context, the improvement of the Greek-French relations is particularly welcome. At this juncture, Greece is choosing allies. This was done by Constantine Karamanlis in the 1960s, when he developed a close personal relationship with General De Gaulle. The example needs to be studied and applied to today’s era, as our country tries to cover lost ground and is in search of a new narrative, if not a doctrine, Dr. Tzogopoulos emphasizes.
